21st Century Deer Management for Fairfax County is a grassroots group of citizens committed to collaborative, comprehensive, effective, and humane solutions to resolve community/deer conflicts in Fairfax County, VA.

- We are against any bow hunting in Fairfax County parks.

Our goals and beliefs:

- if lethal methods are to be implemented as population control, that only the most
  humane method be used, and only in conjunction with a comprehensive plan   approach

- to inform the general public of the abject cruelty and inherent suffering bow
  hunting inflicts on deer

- to promote awareness of the cost and inefficiency of the bow hunting program

- to publicize the danger to humans the bow hunting program poses

- to investigate, develop, and promote humane alternatives such as immuno-
  contraception, etc.

STATUS REPORT - Sept., 2011:

Over much of 2011, we have been meeting with the Fairfax County Biologist & various stakeholders representing environmental interests, hunters, etc. to try to work out an effective, non-violent solution to the deer issue. Guest speakers have presented information on a range of topics from all points of view at the monthly meetings.

At the moment, it appears no amount of reason, evidence, or expert testimony will sway the anti-deer contingent to consider a non-lethal approach, or even the use of humane alternatives. We are launching an information outreach campaign to inform & rally the public to contact their representatives & oppose bow hunting of deer in Fairfax County parks. This is likely the only pressure the politicians will respond to.
